Fred Schepisi paints picture with words and chemistry

When director Fred Schepisi organised a first meeting for the two lead actors for his new movie Words and Pictures, he could not have scripted it better. “I just sat back going, ‘Ooh, my job’s half done here, this is fantastic’,” he says.

Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche had an immediate rapport. “You could see the respect they had for one another’s talent, and that they enjoyed, from different angles, the same kind of humour, the same kind of points of view on a lot of things.”
